Here is the next installment of our Game Searies. Something just a little beyond capture the flag. This game is called Trapped. Play it once and you’ll see why I call it that.
Trapped
Goal: Be the last man standing.
Teams: Informal teams but no one is immediately sure who is on their team and teams change throughout the game.
Setting Up:
1. Several starting points along the field’s edge.
2. A standard deck of playing cards with all but one suit removed. (2 through Ace of Hearts, for example.)
3. The players are brought to their respective start areas along the edge of the playing field.
Time Limit: 25 minutes.
Rules:
1. All players must draw a card from the deck and must attach it to their visor/hat so others can see it. The card must be visible to others at all times.
2. All players must begin the game at their assigned starting point and cannot leave that area until the game begins.
3. Players cannot tell anyone what card they or anyone else has. (Each person must see for themselves the other players’ cards.)
4. Once the game begins, if your card is higher than your opponent’s you can shoot him. If it’s of lower value than his, run.
5. (Read this rule twice.) Card values are in the standard rank order. Except for the Aces. Aces count as a one (1), but can only shoot face cards (J, Q, K). Face cards cannot shoot the Aces. So, the numbers are dead without the Aces and the Aces are dead without the face cards shooting the numbers.
6. Variation one: have two cards of each value so there are two players for each value.
7. Variation two: Play with only one of each number except for the Aces, have 2 or more.
Winning: Be the last player in the game.
Secrets to Winning: If you can figure out a couple of players’ numbers without shooting them or they shooting you, you can let them scout for you. For example, if you’re an 8 and you see a 7 engaging someone, then that person is probably lower than 7. If you’re a number, protect the Ace. This game is also very biased towards those with good eyesight. So, for a tactical advantage, wear your glasses! Regardless of what you do, you’ll have to eventually get close enough to someone’s card that will cause you to give up your identity too. So, take your time as much as possible and let the other Aces take out the face cards and the other face cards take out the numbers.
